We use world-leading technology to efficiently recover metals while regenerating the environment.
Founded by industry veterans Emma Clark and David Coleman, we saw an opportunity to address two critical challenges simultaneously: meeting the growing demand for metals and remediating mining waste.
Emma Clark
Co-Founder & CEO
Starting her career as a process engineer at ExxonMobil, Emma received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Melbourne. Over 20 years, she advanced from Process Engineer to Commercial Manager, overseeing an international portfolio worth $2 billion.
Before founding Orivium, Emma made her first foray into the circular economy as the founder of SORTA.
She currently leads Orivium alongside WATR-H2, which develops technologies to extract green hydrogen from wastewater.
David Coleman
Co-Founder
A leader in the green economy space, David specialises in repurposing industrial waste materials into valuable resources.
After serving as an officer in the Australian Army and a stint at BP, David launched businesses in logistics and food and beverage.
Driven to create processes that fully utilise waste products, he founded Defugo Technologies in 2016, focusing on extracting compounds from agricultural compost using circular technology.
Building on these innovations, he founded EcoX Global, a water purification company working with utilities in Australia and the US.
Prof Andrew Harris
CTO
Andrew is an engineer, entrepreneur and academic with proven experience as a company director, technical advisor and venture builder.
Most recently, he has been a professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from The University of Sydney, and simultaneously a deep tech entrepreneur with a focus on sustainability.
Andrew is also a process scale-up expert, having helped more than a dozen technology companies develop their technology in his career, and spearheaded multiple deep tech ventures to commercialisation and exit, including Sicona, Novalith Technologies and Phantm.
He has also sat on the advisory board for the Australian Research Council Centre for Robotic Vision and Agrifutures Australia.
A/Prof Alejandro Montoya
As Associate Professor and Director of the Fuels and Resources Laboratory at the University of Sydney, Alejandro specialises in predicting the stability and reactivity of nanomaterials at atomic scale for large-scale industrial applications.
His research combines experimental approaches using small and large-scale reactors with simulation-based techniques across multiple disciplines, including advanced treatment of highly contaminated wastewater and process optimisation of gas-solid catalytic processes.
His work on electrochemistry and analytical methods has been instrumental in refining Orivium’s novel electrowinning process.

Our team combines expertise in chemical engineering, mining operations, environmental science, and circular economy principles to deliver transformative solutions for the mining industry.
We’re always looking for passionate individuals who share our vision of transforming mining into a regenerative industry. If you’re interested in combining technical expertise with environmental stewardship to make a real difference in the world, we’d love to hear from you.
We develop breakthrough solutions to complex environmental challenges
We believe mining can and must be regenerative
We create practical solutions that integrate with existing industry processes
We recognise the pressing need for new approaches to resource recovery
We work alongside mining companies to help them meet their resource needs sustainably.
We realised that by 2030, we’ll need over five times more copper for lithium-ion batteries than we did in 2021. Yet 80% of the world’s copper sits in untouchable copper sulphide ores and tailing ponds. And copper sulphide is only one example. Precious metals are trapped all over the place and are widely considered unrecoverable.
The status quo is just not sustainable.
Not only mining but many industries dependent on resources face intense pressure to meet demand while reducing environmental impact. Orivium was the result of us deciding to find a solution. And we have.
Discover how Orivium can help you increase recovery speed and yield at lower costs while advancing sustainability goals.
